I like this idea better than mine. Maybe 8" RoughCountry springs off a '92 Chevy 2500? I've got a rattle can of Monster Energy Green paint to make them pop.

The key is that you?ll save money by only having to buy 2 springs. That would pay for the Monster Green paint job and leave $$$ leftover to put towards a tribal tattoo and a Yeti cooler.

Would still be better than RTE.

Hear, hear!

On a serious note, what about trying to match lift springs designed for other rigs? I can't imagine its that difficult to find a spring that would work on a D2, you just need to match diameter, bar diameter, and get the correct length? But you never read about anyone doing this.

I seem to remember something about Ford Bronco springs being used to give 4-5" of lift.

You know, it was all the rage 20 years ago with the D1 - because the Land Rover aftermarket was really thin.
Now, folks in Russia do it because genuine or ARB parts are insanely expensive there. I don't think there's a single reason to even spend half an hour cross-referencing other brands' hardware.

I might take it back - twice in recent past I bought GM half-ton-specific shock absorbers in roadside parts stores because OEM or OME shocks broke. But shocks are really a wearable item.

Actually, a lot of us have done lots of different things to build our truck (not rig) A lot of us got tired of posting what we did due to the ridicule.

go read some of the 'how to fit 35's' and similar threads, and see the reception.

Nothing on these trucks is rocket science. Figure what type of spring you want; linear or progressive. Figure out spring rates that are close to what you need then have adapters machined to attach them.

Then post, not brag or show off, to illuminate others another option. Just don't take the bait when people start to flame you!

Then people saying your an idiot because you either retain or don't retain

To piggy back what Peter posted, back in the day guys went outside the box out of necessity. Some guys wanted more than what was offered.

Flash forward, guys offering the bigger stuff found out it financially it did not pay off to market monster truck shit in a niche market. For every 5" spring set you can sell 10 2" expedition spring sets. For every DOM winch bumper you can sell 10 flimsy expedition winch bumpers.

basically questioning my knowledge, assuming I am ignorant to what I need for my truck. I essentially wanted to buy springs from them, i have bought a lot from them, but they could not help me. It pissed me off. I apologize. Moderator can delete the post if they feel so inclined.

Sounds like they wanted to help you make a better decision maybe. I think I would try to steer you away from a 4 inch lift. With a 4 inch lift You would probably end up with some issues your not thinking about.

I have a 4 inch spring I'm taking out of a Disco1. You can have the fucking things. You give me your springs so I have something to hold up my parts truck and I'll give you these shitty springs.

No moderators around here. Your being moderated you just don't realize it.

You’re missing the most important variable, the pitch.

I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe no 4" springs were in stock so Erikwas asking questions so see if he really needed 4" springs and if not maybe he could get him some shorter ones.

I'll take your 4" springs, Stew! I should have some stock height ones somewhere around my place..

I don't think there's a single reason to even spend half an hour cross-referencing other brands' hardware.

Well there isn't a spring on the disco market that offers 3-4" lift for 500+ pound loads (rear). So that's one reason? Heck I don't even have a steel rack, drawers, or roof top tent (nor do I want any of those) but I'm easily way past the weight spec of the OME 763's.

Actually, a lot of us have done lots of different things to build our truck (not rig) A lot of us got tired of posting what we did due to the ridicule.

Car, truck, rig, whatever. I get it that 2" springs sell better than 5", but I'm surprised there aren't springs specced for heavier loads available (for a 2-3" lift). I see some discos with roof top tents, drawers, steel bumpers, etc and all that gear far surpasses any of the aftermarket disco spring rate specs. I think the majority of dweb guys are looking to optimize for trail capability rather than expedition, so its probably not as big a deal around here.

You?re missing the most important variable, the pitch.

I haven't seen this mentioned in spring specs before.

the spring specs are derived from it. No reason to advertise it if spring length and rate are supplied. Since you don't know spring rate on junkyard springs the pitch becomes important.

I kinda need to find one too. I have a 95 D1 in my driveway that I was going to make a project but I'll probably just scrap now. Anyway, its packed full of parts as is my shed, basement, garage, side of the garage......

You don't keep parts in your bedroom? We have 3 jerry cans (not fuel) in ours.

I've had to get creative at work and am storing a Y pipe on top of some of the a/c ducts. I also pushed my toolbox away from the wall so I can store parts behind it.
