I like it because it's professional. A straightforward product at a reasonable price.

Don't be a dick to this guy in the name of DWeb. He's keeping the trucks pure and offering a service that not many offer. If you want to be a tool, find another board to do it on.

TDV8 is a lot of motor for an old Disco. I haven't heard of that swap before. I would imagine it's pretty complicated to get all that engine management equipment to behave itself in a truck from 1994 too.

I don't think the concept is bad but the ad is terrible. Very unprofessional, i wouldn't want to deal with that guy

his ad is super unprofessional. here let me take $45k of your money. tell you what you want. and express my own bias about whats cool and whats not... c'mon.

lets use a lucas D1 platform because why? its the cheapest? overlay a GEMS LSE body harness and EMS harness because WHY? offset the cost of just using and LSE truck to begin with by putting it in a LUCAS car. and THEN ill start cobbling something together with no verifiable background, work ethic or order plan.

just gimme your money and ill figure it out?

...oh yeah. and advertised on CRAIGSLIST.

BTW im now building D1's just like that for $44,995. c'mon.

I'm more inclined to think that this guy can do it than some clown like West Coast Defenders. Any organized, capable, detail-oriented LR mechanic could pull this off. Other than painting and frame blasting+galvanizing, there aren't a lot of specialized skills that need to be outsourced here.

There are so many details that you need to be more than just a well organized mechanic to pull this off, unless its a low quality slap it in rat rod build you're going for. Here's what I'd ask if I cared to spend that and not do it myself.

does a lt230 bolt up to the 6 speed he is using? if not what is the solution? If an alternate transfer case is used what is the e-brake solution and are there any driveshaft angle concerns?

is the transfer case in the same place as stock? If not were the pinion angles to suspenion links adjusted or is it going to vibrate itself to pieces?

Does the air conditioning work? Do all the factory gauges work, or has the binnacle been replaced with tread plate and autometer gauges?

Is everything that needs servicing per the manual serviceable without a cutoff wheel? Is heat shield applied in the correct locations?

Are perforated strip garage door hangers used on any part of the build?

If done correctly, I cannot see how this could be done and be profitable at $45k.

I agree. A good frame off resto with some well done mods, parts and labor? $45k does sound on the low side. Good for him if he can pull it off

I would want to know 3.6 vs 4.4 TDI, some pictures of a finished unit and why could you not provide your own 94-99 DI as a base. I live in idaho and it is completely corrosion free and would be a good base for restoration.

More power to this guy if he is actually able to deliver on what he is advertising. There are some, myself among them, who have had less than stellar experiences dealing with you, Elias, even with your commitment to the glory of the marque, unflappable integrity, and assorted imdb credits. "The Land Rover experience" that I had with you, was definitely not one that I, or anyone else, would go "in search of", even though it was worthy of it's own low-budget, documentary. You emailing this guy with fake requests, trying to create a pile-on, speaks volumes, more so than the five-dollar words littering your novel-length, ebay offerings. Pots and kettles, glass houses and stones.

hey mate good to hear from you. you bought what? a $5500 RRC with almost 300K miles on it iirc? She was a great truck - not perfect by any means - but i was fairly certain we were on the same page. And you then did what? send me dozens of photos of a steering box that was questionably leaking - from the rack of a 76 station known for its world class service? And with an open ended offer to help you with parts only never to hear from you again? Clearly the pain was too much for you to shoulder as you have been harboring this for close to 6 years now maybe more and have found a nice outlet. And clearly you are still searching for something and running into my penny novellas. good for you and thanks for taking the time to read them! You could try to make a low budget doc about all this, or just add it to material in one of your routines - since that costs you nothing - which it seems, is how you like it.

...WAIT A SEC! Does it hurt that bad because the masked Disco builder is you????
