"but no, its an easy replacement. new diff goes in. new axels go in, dont forget the right-stuff,"

No its not. He has non-ABS hubs so the axles on a 24 spline diff would be the wrong length.

Buy a 10 spline diff and replace and be done with it.

Elias, that smash was from Deer Valled back in september. I then smashed it again at Slickrock and had a small leak. Finally I got some diff guards, but that front cover needed a lot of work to pound back out!
thats a damn good idea!!! here i am thinking i need to replace my front axle housing.... but no! a sledge from the inside will do just fine.
Make sure to use a torch to heat it and be careful not to punch through. You will need a short piece of DOM or something so you can set it in there and than hammer the DOM.

Wheres your sense of adventure?!! I still say you should upgrade to 24 spline while you can.

Fine, but he needs to get everything from the flange on the end of the axle case out or a whole axle, not just the diff and axles. :banghead:

So, just add on two axle flanges right? No big deal!

Why go to 24 spline...???

If its a daily driver and he is not running 33' + , the 10 splines are just fine, and very cheap to get.

I had my 87 for 7 years offroading and no issues though I ran 32's at the time.

I say make it easy on yourself and go with 10 spline,

Again I really appreciate all of the help you guys are offering!

I have a 10 spline diff on order. A bunch of people are mentioning flanges on the 24 spline axles? It's obvious how green I am at this but I am guessing the flange would fill the gap? Can someone post a picture of one? I asked my local mechanic and he scratched his head...that in and of it self made my wallet scream. I like to diy most of the time but I'm still learning.
