Are there any wiring harnesses out there? I am trying to replace the factory deck with an aftermarket, yet I am trying to prevent running all new speaker wire.

Thanks in advance.

Crutchfield says certain VW model harnesses fit. they used Clarion radios too, so I'm betting it's a common harness.

Or...just cut the factory harness off and splice into it. Not the best option, but that way you don't have to run new wire. You can pull the speakers out one by one to see what color code the wires are at that end which *should* tell you which wires are which at the dash. Then, grab the multi-meter (or test light...) and check the left over wires for voltage. 12V w/ key off goes to the yellow wire on your aftermarket stereo; 12V only w/ key on or set to acc goes to the red wire. The last wire should be ground at that point, but it's not hard to run a new ground if you want to be absolutely sure.

I am running into the same issue with a new deck bought through Crutchfield. I am getting an awful engine/alt whine, most likely due to bad grounding on my part. One of the harnesses they supplied is for the speaker connector, and they assume that all 4 speaker can be grounded to one ground, thinking it is all going to common. I am thinking each speaker pair needs to go to its respective ground cable. I am going to test it out once the snow lets up. However using the crutchfield harnesses are ok and give you at least a wire to wire hookup but they just need a bit more modification to work.
