I just purchased a GDE, I'm trying to find out what winch will fit. Warn no longer makes the winch that fit in the bumper, Just wondering if any one had any ideas.

Wouldnt it have been a XD8000 or XD9000.

The winch that it came with was a 8000, but with a narrow drum, the mounting holes in the front of the bumper are not 10"x4" but are 10"x4" and 6.5"x4", so my question is what winch will fit, even if I have to modify the hole pattern.

I have a 12K winch inside non-winch GDE bumper, so fitting one should not be a problem.

Thanks! Hows the weather, I left La Jolla a year ago for NJ, I miss SD so much. I cant find a good sushi place anywhere around here!

I think I might go with a 10K with remote servos.

Can you post some pics?
How did you brace it?

I have a GDE bumper sitting out back not doing anything...

I can't help you with a winch but would love to see some pics of your GDE. I would love to own one some day. I picked up the Great Divide video from my LR dealer back in the day and have wanted one ever since.

I'm not sure of the winch I'm going to use but I'll just have to modify the mounting holes. A 10K would be the way to go. I'm going to remove the bumper and make some measurements to see whats going to fit.

it has been a while since I have installed a winch directly onto a rover's frame and leaving the factory bumper uncustomized for a factory look..recently I have done so with custom winch bumpers.
back to factory look I have used the harbor freight 8000 and 10000lb winches mounted on a universal winch plate, to this plate I attached 2 pieces of of 1/2 thick 4 inch wide iron angle which bolted onto the frame using upgraded bumper bolts...the factory lists the inside frame under the rad to be around 630 mm, I think I measured around 28 or so inches. the winches I purchased some 8 to 10 yrs ago were no name ramseys sold under the hf name.
I think a 24 inch wide winch shall give you lots of play room...

Got any pics Carlos?
That sounds good.
I remember seeing some nice winch installs on the net back in '02ish that sound just like what you did.

You have to decide how much you are willing to cut into the GDE bumper. I have a Tmax 9000 in mine, though I didn't do the install (or the cutting) and were it my choice would try to make a M8000 fit. I think your best option is a winch where you can mount the solenoid remotely.

if it does the winch bumper, a m8000 fits. it fit in mine. you'll need a longer clutch lever though. i called warn to get one. they had to root around in a box i think to find it.

I really want to modify this RRC but I'm holding back, not sure if I want to modify such a rare RRC. I'm thinking of maybe trading it for something more common.
