92 RRC Hesitiates while coasting downhill

I searched and read quite a few threads about RRCs hesitating but none of those issues seemed quite like mine. It has happened several times while I'm coasting on a gentle downhill at about 45mph (same place actually, ten minutes from home with the car completely warmed up). It almost feels like the truck is trying to downshift (because I'm not on the gas) and goes away after 4 or 5 jolts. Each of these jolts drops the RPMs by 100 or 150 before going back to normal. Its rapid and goes away after 5 seconds, 10 at the very most. Then it happened on the highway yesterday at about 50-55 while I was light on the gas, about 1100-1150 RPMs just like before but when I gave it gas it didn't go away and lasted 10-15 seconds. I'm sure I'm overlooking something. Any help would be appreciated since this seems like the type of thing that a mechanic would simply say he couldn't reproduce.

Based on your description of the problem; I would suspect the TPS. You may be able to improve the condition of the TPS by moving the throttle thru the full 90degree sweep with you hand several times(engine not running of course).

If your base idle is set correctly, then the rpms should not drop below 500 when you take your foot off the gas pedal.

Thanks Randall. Sounds like I may be idling low. I'll see what I can do with the TPS. I also looked around on rangerovers.net and it looks like the idle air bypass valve may need cleaning. We'll see. Anyway. Thanks.

If you are going to take the IACV off to clean it just put a new one on. They are $22 at auto-zone. Tell them you have an astro van with a V6. I did mine a couple weeks ago, it was really dirty and the cleaning was a waste of time. It is one of the cheapest parts I've bought in a while. Idol was dead solid once replaced.
