I was driving the truck last weekend while it was very hot outside.. I drove about 70 miles and the brakes barely stopped the truck when arriving to my destination.
I pressed them all the way to firewall, barely stopping... after the truck cooled down , they seemed fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

if it has been sitting, the pads can rust in the calipers. when you hit the brakes the calipers have enuff umphh to push the pads in but they will not return. after 70 miles, the brake fluid would have been boiling, hence the brake fade. id check to see the caliper pistons are ok and the pads are not stuck. however, if it got that hot, you prolly cooked the seals and will be replacing the calipers soon anways.

If it was 70 miles of stop and go traffic then maybe they can over heat. If it was 70 miles of hwy driving then it's unlikely they would over heat. Unless there were other issues causing the brakes to drag. But dragging brakes will also cause burning/odor from the pads. Sounds like he has a booster or master cylinder issue. My beat the MS is starting to go out.
