96,4.0 coolant temperture sensor question

Does anyone know if a coolant temperture sensor on a 4.0 can be tested with a multi-meter to determine if it is working properly?

Not too sure if it can. Mine was going wacko so I just replaced the thing. Bought one thru British Pacific (In fact I replaced all the temp sensors/sending units when I replaced the radiator hoses/thermostat on my 97 D1). I think in all the sensors and sending units were $25 to $35 apiece.

I used a OHMS reader to test my ECTS. Then I just replaced the thing for $20.00 its too inexpensive not to replace. Now if it were the FTS (which runs about $100+, I might consider checking it before replacing it). Melissa N 1998 D1 4.0L
