'96 D1 Instrument Lighting Issues

So I just purchased a great 96 D1 and am happy to start tooling and wheeling with it. It has several issues that need a little TLC. The first is the primary lights in the instrument panel don't seem to work. The turn signal, Check engine, etc work. I checked fuse 14 and it is good. Luckily the instrument shroud was broken, previous owner probably trying to fix the same issue, so I have it off and the instrument cluster loose. I will replace the #1 lights tomorrow, but I wanted to see if there is something else I should check. The lights for the climate controls don't turn on either, so I thought it might be more than a bulb being out?

There is also a yellow wire taped to the top of the instrument cluster. Does this go to the rear window defroster, it doesn't work and has a red/yellow wire going into it?

thanks for any help.

when i bought mine a yr ago, all but about 3 lights were blown, found another cluster and tested all bulbs and maybe found 3 more good ones. i think you can get bulbs from radio shack, but would have to attach to holders, AB has replacement bulb and holders 3-5bucks, kinda pricey.

I replaced the bulbs, got them at Advanced Auto Parts, and still no lights. My headlights, and I believe outside running lights turn on when I turn the switch, but nothing else changes, such as instrument lights, climate controls, shifter, etc. Any ideas?
