97 D1 Runs Rich and Poorly

Hey I just picked up a 97 D1 with 160k that has issues. The engine is very shaky and underpowered, plus the exhaust smells like unburned gas. I plugged in the code reader and: P1316 Excessive Emissions, P1187 O2 Sensor short circuit upstreams, P1191 Open circuit downstream 02 sensors, P0300 random misfire, P0306 cylinder 6 misfire, and P0303 cylinder 3 misfire. I've already swapped plugs and wires made no difference whatsoever. Also, the oil light comes on at low idle. Where do I go from here? Coil pack? Thanks

compression check to make sure the block is good

then fuel pressure check to make sure the supply is at the right pressure

throw electronics at it after that.

Good luck.
Check compression as noted above, if # 3 and 6 are out of range you probably have a worn out tired engine ,maybe a bad head gasket, worn cam. The oil light can be numerous bad conection at the sensor , pick up plugged bad crank
.Check all vaccum lines , clean throttle body .
Sit down and ask your self WHY and put it up for sale.

Ok, I can borrow a gauge from autozone tomorrow. I need to do something with that anyway since the fuel pump makes a loud and constant whine. Could that be the cause?

Could be worn out I guess but when I first coded it it only threw one misfire code. So who knows. If I can't fix it it's getting parted out.

it is not the connector. The light won't come on if the connection fails. It is likely low oil pressure. The stock switch goes on around 12psi, the rave manual calls for something less. You may be safe, put a mechanical gauge on there and check for the traditional 10psi per 1000 rpm and you'll be fine. Don't fear, my daily driver has been this way for 5 years. Tap the throttle at idle and the oil light should go out, if not you have problems, turn it off immediately

Yeah as soon as I give it any gas the light goes off.

Dunno if it matters but is there supposed to be a hose from the top of the pass. side valve cover going somewhere? I know there is on the D2 and if there is on this D1 it's missing as the driver's side was.

That is your crankcase ventilation hose. Order the replacement hose kit as your seperator is likely clogged with junk.

I had a RRC that had low oil pressure like that, I just put in thicker oil next oil change.
My Disco had the running rich problem, it was O2 sensors that needed replacement.

A bad oil pressure switch will make the oil lamp light up.
But more than likely it may have a clogged oil pick up.
You may want to drop the pan and have a peak, may be a worn oil pump as well.
I guess it all depends what kind of effort one wants to put forth..Good Luck.

I think its very possible your exhaust valves are sticking in the guides. Usually starts out as a hot engine problem and a random misfire code. But eventually a valve gets dinked by a piston and becomes a misfire all the time . But at 160K I'm not sure it would be worth the effort to just fix the top. It's probably just worn out .

Ok well I haven't posted in awhile because I was in England for a week. Now that the weather is warmer here the oil light hasn't come on at all. I ran across a plug wire tester which says that cylinder six is getting no spark and 3 and 4 are getting intermittent spark. At this point the only thing I could think of is coil pack since I have replaced plugs and wires.
