97 D1 4.0, 180K for miles, Heres the problem. Cranks up and runs great, after it warms up to normal operating temp it starts to stumble, and misfire and looses power and while trying to keep it going it will back fire through intake. Once it cools off it runs like a champ. Heres what i have done, I had a spare coil assembly, put that on, no change. I replaced the CKPS and dressed the wires leading to the sensor, they were melted i took care of that all the way up to the intake manifold. I have 34 pounds of fuel pressure, even when its stumbling, fuel pressure holds solid. threw a filter at it, cuz i had one. no change. I even tried to spray the new CKPS with cool water to see if it would make a difference and it did not. so i am at a stand still, need some direction as to what to check next.

I swapped 4 plugs with my back up set, no change. This thing will continue to lose power until its unable to run at all. cool off , get back in and go until it heats up. I gutted the cats years ago, so i have no fear of them shifting and blocking the exhaust.
ECT? Fuel temp sensor?

I've had this in the past, I think it's the heat temp sensor or something like that. I didn't change mine, I just kept driving the truck and it now runs perfectly. I assume it'll start running rough again in the future and that may prompt me to replace the stupid thing...

Fuel rail temp sensor is used by the ecu to determine hot restart fueling... opposite issue from yours.

No CEL or codes?

Thanks for the replies,
this issue started on its own accord, no other work was being done before this or around the time it started.
Cosmic, yes CEL always and forever, lol. i have yet to pull the codes, thats my next step before i concede and take it in. if anything looks weird with the codes i post up results.
Thanks again for giving it a think.
