Has anyone here replaced a crank position senor on a 2.0 L inline 4?

I was hoping to find a cook book style step by step how type info.

My son just bought one cheap and I'm going to let him learn the fun of car ownership.

Thanks all for any help.

So my son found the write up below and we followed it and it worked fairly well. I changed some of the wrench sizes to match what we used.

I've had to do this two times in as many weeks...

Pretty easy and shoud take no more than an hour...

Your need...

16mm,17mm sockets, 13mm small spanner/10mm small spanner/ ratchet and a 5" extension & a couple of Allen keys.

Basically undo the front engine mount top bolt and the gearbox mount top bolt and the lower front mount (Alen key but can't remember what size) 8mm

Undo the metal water hose to front mount with the 10mm spanner

Dis****ect the reverse light switch and the single connector on the plastic mount immediately to the left.

Remove the plastic loom holder to gain access to the top starter motor bolt (top engine bracket bolt). Undo the 13mm nut using a small spanner and then loosen the top rear starter bolt.

Loosen the front upper starter bolt.

Remove your front valance and get under the car.

Support the gearbox casing on a trolley jack.

Undo the front power steering hose support 13mm nut (some of these bolt directly to the gearbox rather than mounted on a starter bolt so if this is the case you wont need to do this step.

Next loosen the front lower start bolt and raise the jack until the front engine mount bracket lifts off the front mount.

You can now remove the three loosened starter bolts which will 'free' the front bracket.

You now have a couple of options on how to lift out the bracket. It can be lifted straight up with a bit of faffing or you can twist it and move out under the rad fan motor. In either case its a bit footery.

Once its out remove the front mount which makes access to G28 that little bit easier.

Remove it with a 4mm (4.5) Allen key and make a note of how the cable is routed.

Pop in the new one (please remember to fit an O ring to the new sensor )

reroute the cable and reassemble.

Hope this helps a bit.

Now you know and...
