So I don't reinvent the wheel here, this is where I'm at: the check strap exists, I even got it lubed enough to slide in the mechanism under the door. But the bolt has broken off on the body.

It appears that I need a very low clearance bolt head to make this work. Can someone show me what this is actually supposed to look like? I know it existed 12 years ago when i got this thing but it disappeared long enough ago that I have no memory of what it was.

I've used penetrating oil on what's left of this bolt with no luck. I'll move up to welding a nut on it and I also think I'll have no luck. I feel like the easiest thing to drill a hole and throw in a rivnut, but I still think I'm going to need a super low profile bolt to make this work.

E: yes, the bottom door hinge is welded on, deal with it :) (this whole thing is such a mess and I love it)

Looks like you need a new truck. There’s even just one bolt holding that lower hinge, that’s not good.

The hinge is welded to the body - it's fine. It's just a boneheaded PO move. They either stripped out or didn't get the threaded backing plate lined up at some point. If it mattered it's a 30 minutes fix, but it doesn't because it's lined up and has been for the last decade+. Sometimes good enough is good enough, especially when you've got a new-ish top hinge.

Also, thanks both for the pictures. That dusted off some old memories and looks vaguely familiar. I guess I need to extract that bolt/standoff and replace it with one that's not rotted off and throw a snap ring on it. (or is that a circlip? I never remember the difference)
