Searched and found nothing on this particular symptom.

Noticed a few months ago that when accellerating from a stop, I would get a short rumbling/grinding noise that would quickly terminate either just before or when the trans shifts into second. If I accellerate slowly, no noise, if I accellerate hard, noise is there. Revving engine in neutral, no noise.

Originally thought noise was coming from front driver side wheel well so checked the hub/bearings and everything seemed in order. Listening harder, I think it may be coming from transmission. drive shaft is good.

Wife says that car is driving a little sluggish, but I don't notice it.

Only other current issue is wandering steering.

From my search I'm guessing it could be torque converter or transmission.

Has anyone experienced a symptom like this whose cause they were able to identify?

Thanks,

I'd check your front drive shaft, the doube cardan isn't grease able. The tend to explode causing catastrophic damage. Also just as likley is your front output bearing could be bad

Last transmission service was 35k ago.

I have a HD greasable front drive shaft and grease it every 1-2 months.

If the trans output bearing is bad, would there be excessive play? If so, how much is excessive and would it be side to side or in/out?
