The automatic transmission in my Disco II is acting a little strange. When the truck has been sitting overnight, I put the truck in drive and it takes quite a bit of gas to get the truck rolling. Once moving, there are no other sypmtoms. It's probably due for a new ZF filter and fluid change. But is this a prelude to something worse?

Are the M and S lights on? If it is in "limp home mode" you'll be stuck in third gear which would explain the poor performance. You might try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if that helps. While it is disconnected you could clean/dry the grey electrical connector that is on the driver side of the transmission. It's not too easy to reach up and disconnect, but it can be done. You might have gotten some water in there.

I had a similar problem with mine last summer. It got to thw point it wouldn't pull out on a steep hill. I tried everything including taking the valve body apart and never did get it fixed. It ended with a new tranny... Even the freaking stealership didn't get it right on the first try.:banghead:

Its telling you its overdue for fluid and filter change.

Expect it to take a couple of days post fluid change to settle down again, as the old gunk gets picked up by the filter

Mine acted up too, slow to start off first thing in the morning, but once warm was fine. When I did the filter and fluid change, I got out maybe 4 quarts, and put about 6 back in. Numbers are fuzzy, but I put in significantly more than I got out. A day or so after the change, it runs and shifts good as new.
