A/C Compressor - Repair, replace...?

01 DII - Have determined bearing noise is coming from the A/C compressor pulley. A/C works fine, clutch engages etc. Is there a kit to replace just the pulley and bearing assembly? Or is it a whole compressor replacement? In looking at new compressors - $269 from BP Utah is not bad, but what they say fits does not look like mine in the pic. Anyone replace? Rather not have to recharge the A/C if I don't need to but have not found a kit and no idea how hard it is to replace just the bearing.

Thanks in advance -

My suggestion is to take the clutch off and remove bearing. It should have some numbers on it. However, if it is a Nippondenso compressor like the D1, the bearings are readily available. The bearing swap is easy on the Nippondenso and no special tools are needed. Here is one example:

I’d bet this is the bearing you need.

Also, look up the compressor on Rock Auto. They show pictures of the compressors with model numbers. If it is a 10PA17C that bearing should be the one.

Here is a video on how to replace the bearing:

Or you could go this route:

Yes replace bearing without removing or messing with the refrigerant. I was able to get the bearing at autozone. You will need a puller to get the clutch off then a press or get handy with a hammer, etc.. to remove bearing.
Suppose it is all about whether you have done such work before.

If it is a Nippondenso, you shouldn’t need a puller. A few light well placed taps and it should come right off. I have pulle several off. A press is reall handy with the bearing removal and install but as John said, it can be done with careful use of a hammer and or a vice.

Pretty sure D2 is Bosch or BEHR. Probably possible to remove clutch without a puller but I used a puller since I had it.
Rebuild should always be first option in this throw away society!
