Ok, just finished installing new uj's in front driveshaft. Before I reinstall I want to change out the front output shaft seal. My question is can I use an impact gun on the 30mm nut or do I need to find/fab a tool to hold the yoke still? I've searched and can't find a concrete answer. Also, what is the correct procedure for filling transfer case with fluid: Fill with measured amount of gear oil, or pump until fluid seeps from fill port.

Thanks in advance

I have used an impact with no problems in the past. with the t-case still in the truck you can just put the truck in park, set the emergency brake, and use a breaker bar to break the nut loose as well. And as for the fluid I just fill it up with 90w until it starts pouring out the fill hole. Hope this helps you

sweet, thanks. I just didn't want to mess anything up using breaker bar/impact gun. last week I topped off the t-case with 90wt until it poured out and i've had large puddles underneath every time I park. Looks like i'll be re-sealing this time too! thanks for the info

Ok. Got the front output shaft seal, i'm getting ready to install tomorrow. my question is what do I need to remove to separate the front output housing of the TC from the center section. I'm looking at Rave and it seems kinda vague. I want to reseal the seam where the 2 meet but I want to clean/remove old gasket. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

edit: my main question is can I move the front output housing far enough out of the way WITHOUT undoing the various cables/breathers etc? All i'm looking to do is clean out the old sealant and reseal.

Go ahead and replace the rear transmission seal while you are there. I did my transfer output seal, then the trans seal began leaking and i had to take it apart a second time.

best of luck
