I just joined because Im tired of being so damn worried all the time.

I rarely take my problem trucks more than 200 miles away from the house and its good to know that swmbo can just make a phone call and not worry too much if something happens (again).

do you guys get alot of use out of them?

They saved me a ton of trouble in '06 when a blowout left us stuck on the side of I-75. I was glad that my buddy riding shotgun was a member.

Still got mine from when I had the D2. Had it towed twice; also used it for when my Audi locked me out twice (with the engine running). So it paid for itself within the first few months I had it.

been a member since 2004, 4 free 100 mile tows a year. Used it on the series quite a few times having it transported from my house to a buddies shop in Fort Worth. It has paid for itself time and time again

What's the radius of AAA? I've always used my auto insurance, but it's limited to only $60 per tow. So it only helps me locally.

Thats what I bought...It was $159 for me and my fiance for a year.

It also includes a rental car for a day so, with the 200 mile tow I don't have to ride back with the tow truck driver! or more importantly, me, my fiance, and my two German Shepherds dont have to ride back with the tow truck driver.

stinky fucks.

What others said... Depends on membership. The most expensive one (I think mine was $120/yr) should get you the 200 mile tow or several free tows. Also, getting doors unlocked, etc. All that stuff adds up if you are going to use need it. I have found it well worth it, especially after a tow or two pay for the whole year worth membership dues. Free tow insurance the way I see it. And if you don't use it, you are a 100 bucks or so out, as opposed to paying for a tow truck way more and then kicking yourself for not having had AAA. The insurance companies' towing coverage generally sucks, at least the stuff I have seen.

I had a guy drive up from Raleigh and look at my 00 740i BMW which was running hot. I sold it as is. He said I'll take it and had it towed home via AAA. Seemed like right then and there AAA was worth it. Plus its exactly 90 miles from here to Uwharrie.

My parents got my brother and me AAA cards back when we first got decent cars. I took over the payments about ten years ago for my parents and myself. I've used it 4-5 times, only once for the Rover. Dead fuel pump on a chebby truck, and dead batteries on a cavalier and an Infiniti. Also used it once for some really cute girls who's mini truck died on the side of the freeway.

I seriously considered joining AAA, even looked up the cost ($109), because I don't want to get stranded or pay my own tow bill. Then I looked at my Auto insurance, turns out it covers as well as AAA. 24 hour Roadside assistance.

I have USAA for insurance and banking and for a few bucks extra a month, they cover $50 worth of free towing.

That's generally a $30 hookup fee and $2 a mile after that.

So basically, you get a free 10 mile tow. Definitely not helping out that much when traveling anywhere in a bigger city.

There has only been one occasion where it was free for me...

Just talked to USAA to compare insurance rates, and my current StateFarm policy beat them by $40 a month. I think I may also have a roadside assistance deal through them, but when it comes to towing, AAA is hard to beat.

I have to keep it because once its gone for me, its gone for good.

Military dependants get to keep it if they never get rid of it.

I also use USAA for banking, investments, and loans...one stop shopping is hard to beat for me.

You sure about that? I had my 99 d1 towed almost 300 miles about 2 years ago. The bill was around $500. I called USAA and they credited me the full amount, I didnt even have to submit a receipt. Towing insurance costs about $3 every 6 months or something like that.
