Short of replacing the whole unit at $100 used, has anybody here broke open the AC head unit and fixed / replaced the button back lights?

Tired of fiddling the dark.

Thanks, mv

This gives details of how to do it and the bulbs you need -

Although, they do suggest a long-winded way of removing the AC unit

Don't touch your radio or it's cage, remove the ash tray and coin tray to reveal the screws that hold in the pop-out cup holder, undo these screws (3 per side) and remove the cup holder, see this -

Then you can see the spring clip on each side of the AC unit, that holds it in to the dash - press-in these clips while pulling the unit forward.

I've done it twice. (And about to do it a third time, damn bulbs!!)

This time around I'm going to replace all of them with leds. There are lots of places to source the bulbs. I got mine from eBay.

Re: AC head unit backlighting fix? Update

OK, wanted to update. this is a very easy fix. Yes, pull the ashtray/coin holder / drink holder as mentioned above. I used a screw driver to push in the tab on the left-finger wouldnt fit in that side. follow above instructions and bingo! no more fumbling around in the dark.

thanks all again,
