i have no working front windows right now, live in the bloody desert, and have no r-134a in the system due to putting a new compressor on last week. so to beat the heat i went and got a couple bottles of r-134a yesterday from the zone and need to figure out how to get some in the system refrigerant so that i can get the compressor to kick over. any ideas on how to get the compressor to turn on, suggestions or personal experience that someone would like to share? i would love to stop wilting away while driving...tia :D

You can't just "add" freon to a system that you have opened up and replaced the compressor (or any other part) on. First you have to hook it up to a guage set, and from that guage set, to a vacuum pump and pull a vacuum for a while (hours) to pull off internal moisture. Then after the system has been under vacuum for a goodly while, you then introduce fresh refrigerant to the system, monitoring it thru the manifold guage set, which shows the pressures on the high and low side of the system. You need to make sure you don't overfill, or you risk blowing a seal.

Attempting to put R134a into a system that is not under vacuum is a futile effort, and would only waste your R134a.
