Accident with the Range Rover

I was in an accident the other day. I was coming over a hill, doing about 60mph, I took my eye off the road, and when I looked up again, the cars that were in front of me were stopped.

I stood on the brake pedal, but realized pretty quick I would not stop in time to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I bailed out to the right into the ditch, and just my luck there was a culvert there and I slammed my front right tire into it, the front end came off the ground, and back into the ditch befor coming to a stop in the ditch at about a 45-50 side angle.

I had no injuries. The pizza I just picked up was all over the front right floor. I had to get out through the sun roof. The RR was flat bedded to the local collision shop. Two days later, I called them and they said they were up to $6,500 in repairs so far. It's a 1996 P38 with 116000 miles. I'm figuring it's going to be totalled.

I went to the collision place the other day, so they could point out the damage they see. From what I see, the two front radius arms are completely bent, the front right shock is toast, I need a new ride height sensor for the front right, a new front right fender, new sway bar linkages, and a new front right fog light. They were telling me that they threw in a complete axle as well, new tire, wheel. I didn't see any damage to the axle.

The selling and trade prices I see on Edmunds, KBB, and NADA, are not very comforting.

I want my car back, and I can fix it myself. Any advice. Thanks.

Everything you listed wrong with it is easily fixed. I can get you started by selling you a right fog light. Will Tillery can sell you the rest. Piece of cake. But while you are in there, pull out the EAS, sell it, and use the money to put coils on. That will save you a trip to the shop to get your EAS height sensor recalibrated.

I just happen to have a white 96 p38 parts truck, and Ill be going to guyfalks. I cant believe robby did not tell you, lets kick his ASS!

Roby didn't say anything. He has a new baby now, so his mind must be frazzled. That's cool that you have a white 96 for parts. I hope to have this resolved before Guy Fawkes though. Maybe we can work something else out before that. I have to see what the adjuster says tomorrow. I just hope it's fixable.

sounds like a pretty bad hit. I dont think it will be right even if you repair it. get another p38 and keep the broke one for parts.

What do you think might not be right after fixing it? I've taken such good care of this vehicle, I'd hate to part with it.

wow, a hit that hard must surely have caused some kind of frame damage. If not though, you should be able to get your hands on that complete parts list for a reasonable price.

If your handy get some good new/used arms and upgrade to the coils, Then take it to a top rated Body Shop for a frame for alignment, ... The emphasis is on Good, I would ask your agent who he recommends for frame work?

I don't know exactly how fast I was going when I hit the culvert, but it probably was 30-40 mph.

A good shop will be able to tell you if the frame is bent or not, and by how much ... push for that before they total it, if you really want to keep it ...
