ACE Amber Light

Hi:

I was driving home on the highway and I as took my exit (a flat but sharp turn) my ACE amber warning light came on. It wasn't a fast exit that will pull Gs, maybe 25MPH or so. I continued to drive home and the truck feel "funny" the suspension not as tight as always.

I remember that the manual says that if you get the ACE amber light on, you can slow down, continue to drive and seek assistance as soon as possible. After two miles I got home and left the engine on; openned the hood; checked the ACE fluid and it looked fine. Checked under the passenger side to see if I see any fluid leaking and it was fine. I restarted the truck and watched the dashboard lights; all checked out ok. the ACE light is now off.

What should I do? wait until it happens again assuming that is a glitch or I should drive to my dealer and see if any codes are stored on the computer.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks

As you can read on this forum, LRs dash lights are overly sensitive. A slight reading out of range can trigger a warning light and often mean really nothing. My ACE light has gone off before only to reset as yours did. That was over a year ago with no reoccurrence since. If you're anal about it you can go pay big money to have the code read at the dealer or an independent shop with the correct computer equipment-- or you could just wait for it happen again with some regularity before getting worked up about it. I'd suggest the latter.

Doug:

before the light came on I had an appointment with the dealer for today so my truck in at the shop. what is interesting is that the light turned off but my truck feels loose, not as tight has it has been for the last year and half. It is like someone disconnected the sway bars or something. It feels very bouncy side to side like a boat on the water.

I will post their findings

thanks

I got a call back from the service advisor saying that they did not find any problems with my ACE system and no codes were registered on the computer after the ACE light went on and stay on until I restarted the engine.

Now they are saying that the extended warranty people are very specific and they will not cover anything that is not broken or has a code; meanwhile my truck is "rocking like a boat" but they cannot find anything wrong. I thought they were going to do a pressure test and determine if the pressure is adecuate, the pump is ok, or at least to inspect or replace the ACE filter and or the fluid.

I was wrong very wrong!!

Since they are doing nothing, I might replace the ACE fluid and filter, when I mentioned to service manager he thought it was a good idea. Yes of course they are suggesting this after I mentioned to them. They have no codes to read or leaking pipes to replace. It is possible to have a faulty ACE system without any warning lights or codes? I don't understand why the customer has to suggest an action plan to the experts. Does anyone know what is included on servicing the ACE system on a Disco '01? It is something that I can do or it is a job for the dealer.

Thanks again

Not sure if you ever came to closure on your ACE issue but I am having the same issue. On long drives2+ hours in hot weather 80+ when I am stuck in traffic is typically when it goes off. I ignore it and it feels just like a stock disco with no ACE. Strange feeling.

When I shut down and restart I have no red warning light on.

My truck is still under warranty though.

I had this problem early on with my 2002ES. Seemed to occur after lane changing or overtaking mildly. The dealer either recalibrated or changed out one of the acceleration sensors - I think in the roof - said they had had a bad batch that would give wild readings to the ACE system. Haven't seen a recurrence since.
