Last week I bought a parts truck and so did my brother. I already have a D1 and he decided he wanted one as well. Both ran so we figured we would chose the best runner and go with it.

We settled on the Green 98 with 160k miles. We bought from a drunk guy who bought it as a project and (thankfully)never got around to fixing it

The good:
-Everything is there. Like, everything! its amazing all the little interior tid bits that are still there. The roof liner is good, the interior is good. Brian started cleaning the seats and they are coming out really nice.
-has not been molested. There is no evidence of any goofy mechanics in there other than what the drunk guy we bought it from did. Does not look to have been off road at all.
-The motor Purrs. Its truly astonishing how quite it runs
-Trans shifts fine, steering seems good

The bad:
-The PS pump has a leak on the hose. Its probably just a hose, but it blew so much oil all over the place its hard to tell what else may be leaking. We cleaned it up so only some miles will really tells us more
-The brakes still had the plastic caps on the bleeders. Its possible they have not been bled in years. The fluid was really bad. Now they are firm but it does not stop well. Probably needs pads
-Transfer case. There is a broken plastic piece in the shift linkage that needs to be replaced. After we tore it out, we confirmed that CDL and low range worked.
-Oil is black, ATF is dark and the other fluids are unknown. I think the fluids where neglected for a long time. I guess the good news is that everything works, so fresh fluids should be a big bonus. we will proibibly change the fluids then replace them again a month later for good measure.
-cracked windshield, but its not so bad that we will replace it.

Next up, we will get a temp tag on it so we can take it on the highway and start putting some miles on it. Fix the CDL and next week, we will swap all the fluids. I know we should do hoses as well, but we really want new fluids in it so that we can determine what else needs to be addressed.

This his turning out to be a good adventure. We need to get a Fuel pump in the other parts truck just so we can drive it around. We don?t plan on keeping it, but I want to drive it so that I know what parts are good on it and what parts are bad. The other truck was $1k but has a perfect SD rack, new alternator, AT tires and starter. So if thats all we pull from it, its a winner.
