I am in the market for a DII '01 anything newer will not fit my budget or at least with the options I want. I found two DII '01s with similar options & price but different colors; I want your honest advice on wether I am on something good or asking for trouble. When I buy this truck I want to install the CDL option as one of the first upgrades.
Both vehicles are certified

Truck #1
Epson Green with 30K miles built on 02/01
DII SE7 with all standard options
SLS, ACE with 18" wheels, Rear A/C
Carfax reports this truck as a single onwer local from NY state; it has 12mths or 19,500miles of warranty plus one year or 12K miles certified
Asking price $25K

Truck #2
Silver with 32K miles built on 08/00
DII SE7 with all standard options
SLS and 16" wheels, Rear A/C
Carfax reports this truck as a single onwer from CA, later came to New York; it has 7mths or 18,000 miles of warranty plus one year or 12K miles certified
Asking price 25K

Interesting, truck #2 has the seven seats and rear A/C but the bagde outside only says SE not SE7. Also, does LR D2 from CA have anything different in terms of emissions? By looking under the hood and chasis the Silver truck from CA looks a lot cleaner; Is it because of the winter on the Northeast? I am going for a test drive tomorrow; any suggestions in terms of what to look for or negociations with the dealer? Yes I will be checking for the CDL nipple as well. The truck will eventually get dirty.

Sorry for the long e-mail; your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Make sure it has the CDL nipple on the T-case so you can get in on this action:

D2's have CDL stubs up to mid 2001, so you should be ok on either of those. If in any doubt, get someone to show you where the stub is, and climb under (when its cold) and make SURE its there. I'd go for the 16" wheels too, but I guess you could always ask them to swap them over if you went for the other one.

Also there was engine valve issues with the earlier D2s, I dunno when the fix was made but definitely you want to research this. All in all I'd go for the later one.

ps I thought they were warranteed up to 50K miles? Is that not transferrable?

Do you mean as the "later one" the green one built on 02/01; what do you think about size 18" wheels and ACE. If I go for this one eventually I am going to buy steel wheels and 16" tires just to play on the dirt and for the winter season. I plan to use the truck 70% on road and 30 % off road, not extreme offroading but some as allowed.

Thanks

Figman, if you are interested I am selling my '02 SE black/tan w/ rear air and 32k for $1000 less than those '01's!! I had an '01 SE7 and had some very expensive repairs to the rear airbags on the SLS as soon as it was out of warranty. I swore never to get a SE7 again. This particular Rover has never been off-road (I have a DI for that). It is in mint condition. I haven't listed the Disco publicly yet, but e-mail me if you are interested. Sorry to hijack the thread, but your e-mail is not available in your profile.

One thing about my '02 though...you couldn't put in a CDL without getting a new transer case. Even with doing that though (about $1000, but you can sell this TC for $) you are still getting a year newer for the exact same price as the '01!

Figman, for you or anyone else that may be looking for a newer DII, the lot I got my D1 from a little less than three years ago has a very clean 2002 DII SE. I didn't want to put this in the For Sale section because it's not mine and I couldn't guarantee they'd give back to D-web. Anyway, it's a little more than the $25,000 you are currently looking at but not a lot. I know first hand they'll come down a couple thousand from their asking price. It has 28,000 miles, Java Black with Bahama Beige leather. It won't have the CDL nipple which is a MAJOR negative but it does have a TON of good quality off road parts already installed. Their website address is www.autobrokersonline.com

Figman,

Yeah all else being equal I'd go for truck # 1 as you put it. But I'd just drive them both, and see which one feels smoothest. Make sure they have the CDL stub, and check on the engine, maybe post a new thread on this to get more info. Probably not much difference in them. Right now the end-of-lease 3 yearers are coming up for 2001 models so you shouldn't have any problem getting another one if these two don't check out. Private sale may be cheaper. My end-of-lease in June payed back around 20K.

Hello everyone:

I finally made my decision and purchased the Epson Green '01 SE7 with all the options listed on my first e-mail. I picked up yesterday and I already love it. The ACE system make this funny sound but with the stereo blasting it doesn't matter.

The truck is certified with two years of warranty and it has 30K miles; It has the CDL nipple too; I will probably wait until the '04 linkage is available to upgrade it. I also got; over 1K of original accessories inside and outside.

I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. Someone from the LR message boards suggested to ask the dealer for new brake rotors and pads; I got new rotors all around since the pad were ok.

Someone will say welcome to the LR family; someone will say "god bless you"... time will tell; in the mean time I will enjoy this fine vehicle.

Thanks all
