Hi guys - Thinking of picking up a 1994 RR county as a daily driver. I have a DII and a Series but the stable needs to grow (wife is going to kill me). This truck runs strong and has low mileage (around 80K). Some rust around the tail window and door but otherwise seems solid. Air has been swapped out for new coils and shocks. Any suggestions on problem areas for these trucks I should specifically look for?

Thanks

Floorboards, rockers, tailgate( you got that one covered already), Shock towers (front) for rust.

Check general wiring harness condition in engine and under front seats.

That's about it.

Viscous coupling - turn slow in tight circle, forward and reverse, note unusual squealing and/or tyre chop.

T/Case chain wear - at highway speeds, quickly let go of gas, do you hear some clicking from the center console area? If yes, chain wear - $$$ fix.

Viscous fan clutch - after driving, with engine hot, switch off. With fan stationary, try to spin it. There should be a good amount of resistence.

I'd ask if the O2 sensors have been renewed.
Check tie-rod ends.
Any excess shaking in steering wheel when hitting expansion joints on the highway?
Radiator, if renewed, a plus.
Brake rotors thickness.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Took the truck out today. Some significant issues with the T-case. Viscous coupling seems buggered up. Turn a tight slow turn and she chirps as though she is locked up. There is also a fairly harsh vibrating noise from the T-case when the throttle is eased off. The fan spins without any resistance when the engine is hot and turned off. The steering seemed fine and the engine felt strong but probs with the T-case scare me. Mileage on the truck is actually about 120,000 and he is looking for $7000 Canadian (about $6000 US). Seems too steep to me

so a perfect oportunity to drop in a LT230 which is what it needs anyhow!

real key to a older Rangie is RUST!!!

you mention the currency is Canadian - is the Rangie from an area that uses salt on the roads during Winter??

if yes, find another as they are really prone to rust outward from the interior steel structure to which the alloy panels are attached.

it could look great from the outside and be totally trashed on the inside.

get one from AZ or NM or CA or a State similiar. yeah, the paint maybe or maybe not be faded, yet, the structure is intact. the rest of the shit can be fixed and given the age, probably needs it anyhow.

good luck.
