I've decided (after a few beverages) that the wife and I need to take a trip worth some cash. The only two trips that I consider spending the big bucks on is Egypt or safari in Africa. Can anyone point me in a good safari direction? I've looked around but everything seems hit or miss. Who is reputable? Trustworthy?
If its worth anything, I'd like to go 5/24-5/30 time.

Thanks for the help up front.

Stay out of Egypt! Talking about running the gauntlet! Kenya is cool especially starting at the beaches in Mombasa, then on to a good safari. There has been some political unrest as of late but I think things are settling down.

Cheers,

Mike

Just out of morbid curiosity, can you quantify "ain't cheap"? I am just interested in how much something like this can span, without wasting any outfitters time "window shopping"

I have to imagine 30-50k on up...way up?

NO because every safari is different & they only take your group so I can't give you pricing...... I think youll be hard pressed to find a co that only takes who you want..[your group only in camp & the cars]

My wife and I were on safari in kenya recently during the election strife. We went to Samburu and the Masi Mara and had the time of our life. I highly recommend the area. We used Tim Trench Safaris www.timtrenchsafaris.com

I would highly recommend Tanzania. Ngorogor crater is an amazing park. The resorts are 5 star, not very expensive and are on the top rim of the crater (only about 100yds wide at the top) tanzania...is a very beautiful place....lots of high jungle, kili, mt meru.....etc...

heck...just driving to the lodge in a diesel Defender 130 with giraffe and monkeys on the side of the road is worth the price.

I was there and few other lodges in august...very good rates. The loge at ngorogoro where I stayed was only $175ish a night if you stay reasonable.

It s the plane $$$ that'll cost you the most.

I highly recommend http://www.sabisabi.com/ if you like the bush in the day but want luxury in the evening . The place was fantastic , very private and we would be in the bush at sunrise and also do a night bush run everyday . We stayed 5 days last May and saw the big 5 . On the last day we finally saw the cheetah .

Abercrombie & Kent Indivicual safaris (just the two of you) in Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa is the first class way to travel-- simply the best. Thomason (sp?) isn't too bad in Tanzania if you get the right driver/guide (Emanuel Kileo) who is an expert on the local birds and animals, with a library of guide books in his rig. Some of the others are really poor and you will be greatly disappointed. Don't go with the el cheapos! Ray
