im curious as well....why does reversing the hoses help? maybe by blowing out air that is trapped in there in a funny way? like backwashing a pool filter or some crap...??

I'm not sure why it helps. But after pissing around with it trying to burp the system, it was the only thing that actually worked. The air must get trapped in there and forced out with the coolant flowing the opposite direction.

When you reversed the hoses, where did you do it ?

At the firewall or the other end of the heater hoses ?

Also, what can I expect as far as coolant pouring out ?

I switched them at the connection away from the firewall. It was easier. At least on mine.

Switch them at the firewall; also if you have ever replaced your upper radiator hose (I did) make sure that no point of that hose is higher than the radiator (trim the thermostat end and push it down/lower). Air will stay at the highest point and thus not get burped out.

There wasn't that much coolant that came out. Just take off the clamps and work the hoses so that they will twist on the fittings. Then swap them both quickly so you lose the least amount of coolant. I didn't have to replace anything. You'll probably have to add some but it will be minimal. It's been so nice not hearing that sloshing sound. It was driving me crazy!!

Ok, so I went out and figured I'd give this a shot.

Removed the clamps on both heater hoses (away from the firewall) and had no luck getting the hoses off. Could not move those suckers without fear of ripping/breaking them.

What's the deal with getting these hoses off ?

PS: the heater hoses are less than a year old, as they were replaced by a LR independent shop to fix a minor leak about 8 months ago....

I tried at the firewall end as well and no good.

Is this a brute strength type thing or is some twisting involved...? I don't want to break anything in the process.

Any tips for hose removal ?

You might try a shoving a pick or very thin screw driver down the side of the fitting, under the hose. Don't pry it up just slide it down and then move around the outside of the fitting and do it again until it loosens up. It should get to where the hose will turn on the fitting.

That did the trick, inserting something thin (small screwdriver and a shell fish pick) between the hose and the fitting and going around made it lose enough to pull off.

Got the hoses reversed and went for a test ride. Haven't bleed/burped the system yet.... still heard some trickling BUT my heat was working WAY better... much hotter to the touch... very noticeable.

Not sure I'm done but this was a good experience as my next step may be removing the hoses again and flushing out the heater core. We'll see, my cooling system likes to make me work once in a while.

Thanks for the advice !

Update: I can't believe how much better my heat is working since reversing the heater hoses. I bled her at the radiator hose junction. Awsome fix guys !

In addition to moving the air out, I suspect maybe the reverse broke up some build up inside the core...?

I know this is an old thread, but I found it searching for a procedure for burping the coolant system. The Disco coolant system is a bit different than what I am used to. No radiator cap. Can anybody tell me how to burp the system in a DII?

Also is this swapping of the heater core tubes a common mod/fix? Should I do that when I am replace my headgaskets in the near future?

Thanks!
