Alignment

I have had my LR3 aligned two times in the last 20k miles Neither of which seemed to correct the un-even tire wear. The wear always seems to be on the inside tread of the tire. First is was the right rear tire and after the last alignment it became both front tires. Today I am off to buy a another set of tires. I will drive them for a few hundred miles and then make another appt for an alignment.

I found some alignment specs posted on the DISCO3.CO.UK site that gave the general Target Values.
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post343179.html#343179

My Question being.... can I ask the Dealership to give me the before and after values? The D3.UK site says that there should be a full tank of gas or replacement weight placed in the vehicle, can this be the underlying issue that causes my tire wear if the dealership doesnt compensate for the fuel not in tank.

I will have a full tank next time for sure. THX

your dealer should be using IDS to put the truck into "tight tolerence" mode before using new alignment values given to them by LR for this tire wear problem.

if the alignment machine is set up for before and after vlaues you could request a print out of it.

20k seems early but isn't this an inherent result of the independent suspension with the wheels a little off camber in normal mode to so that off road mode is not too whacky the other direction?

what tires are you running? I heard lots of people complain about the stock tires a while ago.

I have a mutt set on right now, The Wranglers on the front and Pirelli on rear. I was supposed to get a another set today, but they ended up being 18's. I really dont want to buy another new set of tires and only get 15000 miles out of them(pirellis), not worth $1300. I have been to Asheville once and Boone three time since the last alignment and the front two tires are showing significant wear, the rear already need replacing cause they are softer and suck. Im not against buying another new set, but I want to at least get close to 30k. am I asking too much at 30k??

30k is nothing for some tires. the bfg at's I've used for years on different vehicles last well past 30k I think. you can't get 19's though - assuming that's what you meant above.

You might want to check more with some other higher mileage lr3 users. I've only put high miles on the disco 1 so far.

im with jwest bfg at's are great, but ive yet to see them on a LR3.....ive seen tires worn at 15k up to 25-30k but it depends on driving habits.......i would make sure before you decide to spend money on tires make sure the correct up-to-date alignment spec's are used for your truck and have them check all of the suspension components as well....suspension parts should be covered if still in warranty

good luck

My Cooper Zeon LTZ's just passed 25k miles, and still look new. I don't know if it is the 5-7k rotation, or the occasional alignment about every 10-15k but the tires have held up incredibly well, both on road and offroad. I think you will have a lot more problems with two types of tires. Some have stiffer sidewalls and softer tread, while others like the Coopers have softer sidewalls, but very strong tread.

Obviously tires have a lot of controversy, as evidenced by the board, so ask around. I have found, though, that my LR3, once you have a good alignment, holds it well for a long time, and it is only when the control arm bushings on the front start to wear that you have more alignment issues.
