What year and model are we trying to diag here? Code 44 could apply to the RRC from 89-95, 2 years of Disco I, 2 years of NAS D90 and 1 year of NAS 110. All those models have different cofigurations of alternators and belts. Too tight, too loose, routed incorrectly could be related, could be unrelated to Check Engine light and driveability issues. A leaking oil pressure sender has no effect on engine management unless it's spraying oil all over the belt causing the alternator to slip against the belt.
C'mon, throw us a bone. Help us help you.

Yeah but, if you read the top it tells you to put your vehicle info in the thread! Surprised it took this long before someone asked.

Start by checking for vacuum leaks (hissing or sucking sound). Inspect your intake hoses for cracks, new air filter. Check cable connections and sensor connections. Hopefully it will be something simple but you at least have to start somewhere.

You may have a few issues. First I would check voltage at battery while running, if you have an inductive amp clamp check the alt.also check the wiring going to the coolant temp sensor and the distributor. check the cap for wear. If you do replace make sure you get a cap with a carbon tip. The code you got may be erroneous and just a result of another problem. Like others have suggested check the for vacuum leaks etc. you also might want to remove your fuel filter and see if it's clogged

I'd replace the alt first and then I would look @ the dizzy for your rough idle, take the cap off and grab the rotor and twist it counter clockwise, does it spring back? you may have worn out dizzy, replace the rotor and cap , plug wires ok?
Clean the stepper motor, clean the throttle body ,and for gods sake, time it..

No signs of vacuum leak - no audible signature of a woosh, hiss or pfft.

I will inspect the distributor.

I replaced the oil, oil filter and air filter lastnight.
