Alternative winch use

Not sure if any of you have done this or seen this, but we were faced with a stubborn 44" Bogger on a crappy 15" rim and no strong source of air (my air tank was empty)...so we demounted the rim, wrapped the winch rope around the tire, clenched down and provided the weakish ARB compressor (old type) air...it reseated in a second, we released the winch as the tire filled up in order not to strain the weak compressor

In hindsight, we could have done the same proceedure on the tire without taking the rim off as there are no body panels on both trucks, but we didn't know better before demounting...

Here are some pics...

In NY we use a rope and screwdriver.... I had the same problem when I installed the Simex tires. The tires had been sitting on the boat for over a month (stacked one on top of the other) and it was a real pain to stretch the beads close to the edge of the rim. I asked the guy at the tire shop if he had any lighter fluid and matches but he didn't like the idea. Anyway, we got them on by tieing the rop around the middle of the tire and wrapped the large screwdriver around the rop and started turning (tuorniquet). Next time I'll try the winch method. Thanks for the tip.

I've used a ratchet strap to reseat ATV, truck and hand cart tires after they've lost seating on the rim. Same concept, wrap around the tire and put air in with a small-ish compressor. I guess a winch strap is the next best thing when you're in the trail.

1. lay the rim on a rock so that the tire is off the ground

2. press the tire down onto the rim hard to seat the lower bead.

3. squirt lighter fluid in the tire all the way around heavily

4. toss a match into the opening and WHOOOOOOOOOSH:D
