Alternatives to the Holy Grail of Shocks?

I am sold on the idea of getting the best part one can afford. The problem is, I can't afford the Bilstein 7100 of Fox 2.0. Plus, I don't think I need that much shock. The Bilstein and Fox are top notch, but for my needs, a 2" lift w/ OME's has served my well.

However, my "99 DII is in need of shock/spring replacements and I want to go with more articulation, (upgrade, don't replace) so OME is out.

So here is my question after much searching, here, muddyoval, ih8tmud, google, etc.: if I use the RTE lower front shock mount, I can use a whole host of shocks, provided that they are correct length and valved correctly, right?

One example is the Rancho RS9000XL, specifically the RS999269. It is eye mount upper/lower of 9/16" (need spacer), 16.875" / 27.250" with 18mm rod and 2.75" tube. They are 9-way adjustable (big deal) which would lead one to believe that I can find a correct setting. Less than $100 per corner.

Thanks in advance for the (constructive) critisism and advise.

In the end you get what you pay for. Blings are pricey but it's the last shock you'll ever buy for your truck.

I think it really depends on what you are going to use your truck for.
Fair enough spend a grand or so on a set of top notch shocks if you are going to beat the crap out of them each weekend, but if its your everyday vehcile and you only take it off road one a month, OME or Pro comp ES 9000s are a good choice.

Thant has kinda been my line of thinking. Also, I have 180k miles on my truck, not sure that I need a shock that will outlive my truck.

Anyway, any thoughts on the details of measurements above?

Don't get the Pro Comp ES 9000's. They are shit. To light for your truck and they will be bouncing before you know it. I've run them, I know.

OME LTR shocks are more expensive then Bilsteins or Fox, and I'm not sure if you can rebuild them yourself or not. Plus they are the same length as standard OME shocks...

Save up and go with Bilsteins or Fox...

If money's tight do what I did. Get the Pro Crap's plus 2" and save up for decent shocks. The PC's will cost less then $200 if you have to have shocks now. Just realize they won't that great but you can beat on them for a year or so until you can get something better.

Why do you want more articulation? is it so you can go furter? maybe we can do other mods that will add more capability.

For instance do you have a CDL?

I have the RS9000 now. They work but they are by no means the shock to have. The 9 way adjustable is a joke. They work on the road at 9 and off road at 0. They feel the same on any setting off road. 0 is a little softer but not worth the hassle of reaching through the front springs with needle nose pliers to adjust them.
