I was coming home from a cross country yesterday and I noticed the check engine, RSR and Anti-Lock light (all of which are always on) began to "blink" at about 3 times per second. Today I noticed the tachometer was becoming erratic. Maybe it is the alternator?
Is there a way to test it?

hope it isn't the Voltage regulator (I don't even know where it is).

It may indeed be the alternator - if not the ground.

Voltage regulator is on the back of the alternator and can be replaced separately, despite what half of the rebuild places will tell you.

EDIT: that is assuming the D1 - I know next to nothing about D2.

The bouncing tach was a symptom of my alternator failing also. Right before I replaced it the brake light, maint light, check engine light, low fuel light all came on at once. Everything was fine after a new battery and alternator. This was a D1.

Super !!!
Mine is a Disco 1 and the alternator came with it when I got it. It has served well but probably ready to go out.
Thanks a bunch !!!!
