another aftermarket radio question

OK I searched several times and can't figure this out.

My radio and changer finally died so i figured its time to get a aftermarket radio.

1997 SD Discovery

I got the a compatible deck
proper plug adapters
PAC OEM 2
antenna adapter

I am still getting buzz. I hooked it up first without the PAC and got buzz. I then hooked it up with the PAC and it didn't change anything. grr! I ran a ground to the battery...NOTHING different.

I read on here to get a ground loop isolator. I'll pick one up from radio shack today, but where does it get installed. I'm also using the factory amps.

thanks for any help given

If you're using factory amps then you have to make sure you are sending an un-amplified signal to the amplifier. To do that you need a harness that has RCA's and not speaker outs. Also, the ground loop isolators go between the amp and headunit, usually connected by the RCA's.

You can bypass the amp by cutting the speaker wires at the output of the amp then extending them up to the radio in the dash. Connect them per the radio instructions for direct drive.
You will then be controlling the speakers from the radio alone and if the radio has good power you will very satisfied with the result.

Good luck

Check this link out:

If you scroll down to the land rover section there is an amp integration kit for D1. That should solve your issues. You know what makes life a whole lot easier. If you purchase a head unit that has pre out/rcas. That way you can plug in the rca to the headunit and the back of that harness goes into the LR harness with all the speaker wires and then you have an un amplified signal going out.

If you use the pre-out on the deck then you are sending an un-amplified signal. Issue one solved. If after that you still hear hissing, then purchase some ground loop isolators of off Amazon and install them between the pre-out from the headunti and the pre-out of the harness. I had the same issue and the isolators solved the issue. you need some thing like this, two of them:

That will fix it.

thanks for the help. thats what i did. i picked up two of those from Radio Shack and installed them between the deck adn the PAC. it helped but the hissy is still there. i am usually a 22 guage wire for my ground. im to the point im thinking of usually a 18 or 12 guage.
