To start, my Disco has the older 3.9 and 100amp alternator. I don't think I can put ones on from later model years due to the 100 amp fuse inline - or at least that is what I read in other threads.
I have been reading through old threads with many links broken, some not broken. My alternator has died again, or at least it seems it had. Prior to death, I have been having the flaky tack problem along with a cigarette lighter guage telling me that it charges in low 12's and dips into 11 when stopped at a light, in gear, with lights, radio and fan on. The same guage shows 13+ is other cars so assuming this thing has issues generating the right amount of juice at all times before it finally died.
My belt and pully/tensioner are new in the last year ro two, less than 10k miles, so I know that is not the problem. I don't want a used one from Will again, I have gone through three of those (one replaced under warranty).
So, anyone have a recommendation for a new alternator that is not a chinese built autozone one? I don't need extra power, just want one that will last.
Autozone has a Bosch remanufactured for 318 but it seems like a lot for a reman.
Rovers North has a Proline for 218, but not sure if that is a good brand. https://www.roversnorth.com/parts/ple863_alternator_100_amp_v_8_7_groove_pulley
Lucky 8 has one for 240 and says it is new but does not list a brand - https://lucky8llc.com/collections/discovery-i-alternator/products/alternator
Thoughts? What is the latest go to for replacing an alternator?
