hello everyone! Just found this board yesterday and was so relieved that it exists. I had been looking for awhile and come up empty. Also belong to a BMW board (e46fanatics.com) that has been incredibly helpful so I'm excited to have found discoweb.

My girlfriend bought a '00 Disco II last month... got a pretty good deal I think- $15k and it has 34k miles. Last weekend we took it offroad in some pretty nasty mud and we both had forgotten how much fun wheeling is. This truck is completely stock, but it did great and we had a blast. I want to do some mods to it.. nothing too serious but I wanted some ideas for under a G. I was thinking the standard brush guard and sidesteps/running boards just to get started, but read people saying the stock brush guard isn't worth it, and i notice no one has sidesteps/boards in the pics I've seen.

So any feedback would be greatly appreciated.. oh wait a couple more non technical questions-- I'm 6'4 and have NO room in the driver seat. Is there any way to get the wheel to tilt higher? Sorry if thats a dumb question it just seems there is room for it to go higher and it just stops. Also, has anyone ever moved the entire seat/rails back to allow more leg room? I still can't believe a truck with all this room is so tight.

Well thanks in advance for your responses! :D

Welcome to the board!

Standard brush guard is weak and also lowers you approach angle.. go with a real bumper [search for bumper, you'll find tons of info]

Running boards are horrible.. they lower the sills drastically and get banged up REAL quick in any type of offroading environment.

On that note, I have an extra brush guard and set of running boards for sale if you are interested :)

I'm a Toyota transplant myself. My goals are sill protection/skid plates, front bumper, lift, rear bumper...in that order. I feel like my truck does a pretty good job stock for now, and what with me being 3000 miles from Utah and all my NC friends bagging the wheeling scene for motorcycles, looks like I'll be following the dealers recomendation to install protection and hold off on the mechanical mods til the waranty runs its course.

welcome aboard!!!

please don't bring up politics ;)

Running boards? What are those?

JK, don't waste your time or money on running boards. That was the first modification I did to my stock truck...took those babies off and hung 'em by their brackets on the fence. They are useless, they clog with mud, and will be the first thing to get torn off by a fallen tree limb or a rock. Save the money for a good solid bumper. :) And welcome!

If you want something to step on, get the RTE rock sliders with bar. Im on them all the time, one of the best mods iever did, also my first.

sweet! those look really nice. So how much am I looking at for a decent bumper? I searched "bumper" and saw alot of discussions about ARB/Rovertym etc. Don't need a winch at this point...

but youll need a winch the first time you get stuck. As far as bumpers go, they range from about 600-1200+ pick which charecteristics you want, approach angle, or air bag capable or ust looks and then choose your budget.
