Hello again,
Thanks for the replies on my other thread on filling the axles. Does anyone know if a Series IIa (1970) rear axle will swap with my Series III (1974) rear axle? Are the Series IIa the same gearing (would I have to swap both front and rear)?
Thanks again,
Chuck

Only thing you might run into would be if you were talking about, one is an 88 and the other is a 109, as one might have a Salisbury and need a different length driveshaft (maybe, but, I don't know for sure that it would); but the gearing should be fine, no need to swap the front axle, too.

The only difference (if they are both out of 88') might (note might) be that the studs and lugnuts are bigger on the SIII axle. Have to check that (not that it really mattters).

Other than wheel stud/lug nut size and the salisbury vs rover axle differences there is one more difference.

The spring perches for the rear axle are in a different spot for 109s vs 88s. The 88s are lined up with the chassis but the 109 rear springs are outboarded a bit.

True about the 88 vs 109.....

But in regards to the salisbury....

Have you ever seen an 88 with a salisbury, stock?

Now that's a silly question. No I have not. But I do not see any place where the donor vehicle was identified as either an 88 or a 109.

Just trying to provide a complete answer.

Good point. His was ID'd as a SWB in his sig line, but, he doesn't specify the donor. 109" weren't imported in 1970, but, it could be a later import, not one of the original US imports.....
