Another vibration thread...

I've searched and I haven't found anything that sounds exactly like what I'm getting. I have a 94 D1 with OME MD springs/shocks, new polybushes, new steering rods, 2" body lift, 128K miles, GY 265/75R16 MTR's that drives smoothly until the torque converter locks at 52 mph. Then it has a vibration, although it almost seems like it's losing power. If I downshift it seems to go away. This also happens while running 245/75R16 tires, and all the tires were recently balanced. My rotoflex coupling (2 yrs old) has a tiny crack forming but it is not disintegrating like it was before.

The new development is that sometimes it seems to happen at lower speeds as well, but it is really hard to tell. Also, sometimes it doesn't happen at all above 52 mph.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

Hmmm, The only thing that's been done is fluid changes (5 qt) with synth blend fluid every 15,000 miles or so. I don't know the last time the filter's been changed, probably a good time to do it now. It doesn't clunk any more than "normal", though.

I'd check the U-joints carefully, and inspect the d'shafts to see if they've thrown a balance weight off. I've seen some with a lot of rust under the weights, and some that were starting to break some of the spot welds.

This proberbly sounds odd, but i had a big vibration in my car that felt like it was from the gear box, after 5 minutes at a lr dealer they told me it was the water pump. problem solved. Just another avenue of exploration for you.
