Hi Guys,
I asked for some purchase advise on here a while back and ended up finding a nice deal on a black '04 with 110,000km. It's got the CDL but no ACE or SLABS to drive up repair costs. I bought an extended warranty too, to cover the surprises (like this one). I've just noticed a vibration at higher speeds say around 120km/h (75mph) that is the worst on a neutral throttle (ie. no load on the drivetrain). Throttle on or off and it's barely noticeable but at its worst it's like driving on the rumble strips at the side of the highway. I checked the U-joints and found the front pinion yoke to have .005" end play and .010" side play. Has anyone experienced this before? Will the whole diff need rebuilding or just new pinion bearings? Any idea on cost?

Thanks

Dangeruss,
I think You can adjust this joke removing the U-joint holder and adjusting the pinion nut (or should I say screw). There is a small torque You have to do in order to drive the correct adjusted pinion, and You don?t should feel this yoke in my opinion.

I removed the driveshaft and locked the center diff so I can keep driving. I would rather replace the bearings than just tighten everything up because I can't imagine them being undamaged after running with play in them. I'm not sure if the gears would be damaged from this but I'd like to source some ahead of time just in case. I called the dealer to price the parts and they only sell the pinion bearings seperate. If you want new gears you have to buy a whole diff for $2200. Can anyone recommend a source for decent aftermarket gears?
