possibly the worlds only 220 swift mosin nagant.
this one started out as a slightly bubba'ed remington 1891 that thought it was a shotgun instead of a rifle. when i got it the barrel had been shortened & it was in an ati stock.

i pulled the barrel then rethread a remington 722 .222 barrel for it. i reamed the chamber to 220 swift AI.

i made a bushing for the bolt head to reduce it down for a .473 casehead and shimmed the extractor back .010. i still need to do a little more work but its shooting and feeding. i also had the deepen the extractor groove in the bolthead and modify the ejector/interuptor.

here it is put back together with the rethreaded & rechambered 722 barrel.

the first 3 shots were from a standing rest at 50 yards and i couldn't see the front sight very well. i wasn't trying for accuracy i just wanted to see if it had potential. it put three shots into a 1" group.

i swaped the front sight out for one that i could see better and fired 3 more shots. it came out to a 5/8" group.

now that i know it has potential i'll get some decent sights on it and order a european classic stock from great american.

I bought my Mosin from an old WWII vet for a 100 bucks because he wanted to keep it in the Marine Corps family. Great condition. I am going to keep it in the origenal condition. Ofcourse it's in the sniper config from the war.

Cheers

i have a few more mosin projects in the works.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/dirtyjim/mosin sporters/heavybarrelmosin2.jpg
on this one the bolt handle had been relocated to the rear and the gap in the rear bridge has been filled. the barrel is from a czech uk-59 machine gun its chambered in 7.62x54r. since the picture was taken i've turned the barrel to a straight taper from the muzzel. the barrel is 24" long, .950 at the muzzel and tapers to 1.170.

i also have two more barrels that have been threaded for mosins but i haven't bought donor rifles for them yet. one of the barrels is from a russian maxim machine gun and the other is a finned 7mm barrel from a madsen light machine gun. the maxim barrel will stay in 7.62x54r and the finned madsen barrel will be chambered in the 7mmx54r wildcat.
i have another finned madsen barrel on a mauser, its chambered in 7mm-08.
here is a pic of the finned barrel mauser,i still need to finish the stock on it. i call it cletus, bubba's brother.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/dirtyjim/sporters/cletus1.jpg

i'm also planning on doing a couple big bore mosins, one in .375 and one in .416.
for the 375 all i'm going to put a .375 pilot on my 7x62x54r reamer to cut the chamber then use a neck and throat reamer to finish it.
the .416 will be more complicated. if i try to use 7.62x54r brass i will have to blow out the shoulders & make a custom reamer and loading dies.
but i was thinking that i may be able to use a 416 taylor reamer and dies and blow out .284 winchester brass to make a .416 wildcat. to make the wildcat i would have to shorten a set of .416 taylor dies untill the base is the same diameter as a .284 winchester case then when i ream the chamber i would have to shorten the chamber the same length as i shortened the dies. a few people have used this same method to make short fat wildcats from 7mm magums and 300 win mags so i don't see why it wouldn't work on a .416 taylor

If you need more mosins Royal tiger has then for $60.
Or if you want to experiment and build me something unique. I will supply a mosin or mauser and parts and some cash for labor.

sean, we can probably work something out after i get a few more of my projects off the bench. i have better luck getting clean rifles from southern ohio gun than just about any other distributor.

the rest of my mosin projects will be built on hex receivers. hex receivers have a inner ring like a mauser that makes marking the barrel for the extractor cut easy & hex receivers also have full threads. the later round receiver mosins do not have the inner ring and two sections of the barrel threads were broached out when the lug raceways were cut.

here are a couple pictures of the maxim barrel and the finned madsen barrel screwed into a hex receiver. madsen barrel is the first two pic's

the barrel is 20" long, .940 at the muzzel & 1.175" at the shank

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/dirtyjim/mosin sporters/maximbarreledmosin.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/dirtyjim/mosin sporters/maximbarreledmosin1.jpg
the maxim barrel is 25 1/2" long. the muzzel weight on the end of the barrel is 1" dia. and 3 1/2" long. after the muzzel weight the barrel drops down to .675 then tapers to 1.187 at the shank.

i'm going to make a stock for the maxim barreled rifle similar to this finn mosin 27-66 target rifle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/dirtyjim/mosin sporters/finn27-66pic1.jpg

on the finned madsen barreled rifle i'm not sure yet what i'm going to for its stock yet but i think it needs to be just as unusual as the barrel.

Ok, I have a hex Mosin and a few Yugo mausers, I have been wanting to do something with. I like the Madsen barrel, it's ugly enough to be cool.
