Any Advantage with moving to a 16' wheel?

I have a 03 Discovery with 3' of lift, I'm going to be putting a little larger tire on when I replace them soon and was wondering if there was any advantage of moving to a 16' wheel instead of the stock 18'?

Also any recommendations for new calipers and pads? I'm going to do tires and brakes at the same time.

Thanks in advance for the help.

My '04 came with the 255/55-18's and I bought some stock 16's from a wrecker and installed 245/75-16's on them and it was noticeably nicer to drive. Better ride and didn't wander like the 18's did on roads that have some 'grooving' from heavy truck traffic.

16's give you the extra sidewall you need when airing down. Plus a softer ride, again due to more sidewall. The downsides are cornering response is worse with 16's

18's Look good on a D2, but unless you're just mall crawling or going with 37" tires stick with 16's

I traded my 18" prolines for someones 16" mirage wheels, then I went with the steelies.

I wonder how it worked out for this guy. I'm curious to see how he put a 16-foot wheel on a Disco with only 3 feet of lift.

The 'tires are cheaper' point isn't really true anymore. You hardly see 16" wheels (if at all) on new trucks/SUVs and 18" prices have come down significantly. The difference is not enough to make your money back on the purchase of 16" wheels if that matters. I've also found it damn near impossible to get rid of a set of 18" wheels for anything more than scrap.

If you're going to be any substantial wheeling in the rocks or difficult terrain 16" wheels do provide an advantage, otherwise 18" wheels will suffice. That being said I've gone 18" to 16" before and am considering doing it again when I upsize tires

Sorry, dredged up a relic with this one, searched for something else and responded to this 2 year old post forgetting I wasn't on the main page.
