I got a high pitch metal grinding noise coming from my front diff/transfer case area. the noise is similar to a bad wheel bearing. Also it will occasionally knock if I take a hard right turn. I have ruled out the wheel bearings and CVs. Any input? Transfer case on its way out maybe?? Are there symptoms of a soon to be failing transfer case.
I am taking it in to get looked at hopefully on Monday. I just thought you guys may have some ideas.
Man is this damn truck burning a hole in my pocket!!!!
Thanks

I just had the same problem coming from the transfer case area in my 99 D2. It was like a bird type screech sound. My front drive shaft was on its way out and the double cardon joint was ready to come apart. I immediately stopped driving it and bought a new one. If it does break apart, it can smash through the transmission and even worse through the floor of the truck. My sound only happened when the truck was in gear and accelerating. No noise on turning, giving it gas in neutral, or braking. Take a look at the drive shaf joints to see if they look good and secure.

Thanks guys,
Jamil, your symptom describe it to a T. I checked the joints and they looked secure. I do believe one of the U-Joints are going out because of the on and off driveline vibes. I think the driveline vibes are a different issue though. I may just disconnect the driveshaft to rule it out. What do you think?
Alex, thanks for the info. I have not yet checked the parking drum. Any specifics?

I am just a little frustrated with it because, it seem like just when I get one thing fixed something else breaks. I guess its all part of the love hate relationship. Right now I am hating it. Anyone want a slightly modified disco?
