LR4 is MUCH nicer inside than the LR3, Nav system works much better, new engine is a big improvement over the previous one, and every bit as capable esp. with the heavy duty package. Traction control/abs/HDC is quieter. I take one out to the woods once or twice a month (40 psi in stock street tires) and am continually amazed at what it can do despite the traction handicap.

DiscoDawg,

Now that it's been around 4 months since you bought how's the LR4 treating you?

Keyless entry failed and locked my 1 year old in the car alone on a 90 degree day. LRNA said it was impossible but went ahead and paid to repaint the doorjamb the LEO mutilated.

Front left camera failed the first week of ownership. Still hasn't been repaired as the dealer can't get parts.

Otherwise, it has been flawless. :D

I like it more than my Porsche Cayenne S. I would definitely recommend one, although, I would encourage anyone who gets one to keep the key in their pocket. ;)

Can't believe even those issues within 4 months....not picking on land rovers or anything also have a buddy that bought a brand new BMW last year and it was in and out of the dealership for little stupid stuff several times within the first year. Automakers I guess will never work all the bugs out before they release a new version of something.

surround cameras have been a hassle and parts are on back order from the planet saturn! so who knows when they will be available.......as far as the lock issue not sure on that but glad to hear LR took care of the repairs......

the 5.0 is great too

when its time for a oil change just make sure the oil is hot or it will take forever to be sucked out....oh and loosen the filter housing first to aid in sucking out

good luck with it we have had many happy customers with there LR4's

for some reason though RRS and RR thats another story!

You are supposed to keep the key regardless of the keyless entry or not...what if someone were to drive off with the kid?

change the oil yourself! drain it, take out the filter and replace it. add 8 quarts (if you are nervous add 7.5 and watch the instrument cluster while you add the last 0.5 qt)

Aren't the scheduled services (oil changes, etc.) covered covered for the warranty period, or has Rover done away with that?

New LR policy is that only the first one is a freebie (at 15K mi. or 1 year!) The remaining scheduled services are on the owner's dime.

The LR4 is a very nice truck. Lots more power and seems to handle much better than the LR3. As for the oil changing issue, its all ok. Ya there was talk of not having a drain plug and pulling it out the top like a couple posts mentioned but thats not the case. I was told that its against some kind of law to sell a vehicle here in the states without a drain plug. Not 100% sure of the law thing. But I am 100%sure that it has a drain plug.

You can change the oil the regular way. Yes there was talk of nno drain plug. But in the end it IS there. Someone told me they cant sell a car here without a drain plug. There is no dipsick though. You scroll thru the menue on the instrument cluster and get the oil level reading electronically. I think the biggest change is the engine, this new 5.0 has more power. The supercharged 5.0 available in the sport and the full size is scary fast.

No problems.

Camera was eventually fixed - the list of things they removed from the car to replace the wiring was impressive - seats, parts of dash, console, etc.

Other than the original teething issues which were fixed, it's been a great truck.

The interior is certainly not "MUCH" nicer. It is nicer, but not nearly what it ought to be or could be and certainly not for the price point. These LR4 seats suck ergonomically just as much as the LR3 seats do. So what if they have nicer covering, what's underneath is what matters more for comfort. I find it so annoying this company has gone from what used to be good seat design (Range Rover lux seats in pre-facelift interior providing articulated upper back similar to BMW "comfort" seats) to crappy barely adjustable, lumbar-less (2005 and 2006 had none) or shitty lumbar (2007 to current) and an essentially useless headrest adjustment once it even became adjustable.

The heated aspect of the lr3/4 seats is total crap, patchy, not very hot, automatically times out/off and doesn't go up the back rest enough.

So, yeah, the lr4 got a few slightly nicer materials and coverings inside but without any real notable advances in design or function. In fact the lr4 looses several little places to put your stuff.

The lr3/4 still have way too many crappy bits like the sun "screens" that hardly stay in place and moreover suck for doing anything useful. Why are there only two "one touch" windows? Too costly to have all 4 operate the same way?

Too much bs. I'll never buy another Rover unless some designers get it right again one day.
