My dad is looking to get a new car to drive to work. He drives 150 miles round trip daily to work . He wants something that can be fixed close to our house. At this point the only close dealers left are dodge/chrysler (which he'd never buy), Saab (which we've already owned and had a mediocre experience + its a pretty dead company at this point), and Volvo. Right now it seems like the Volvo is the best option.

He's looking to get a CPO 08 or 09 2.5T AWD. We're just wondering how the reliability is, how they hold up, what repair prices are like, etc

Could you change the oil on them or are they your now average european sedan where you might as well take the engine out of the car to do it.

Your search criteria strike me as unusual. Why does the car have to be serviced at a dealer? Are there no good indie garages in the area? Could you also not buy a car that is more common than a Volvo so more mechanics would be familiar with it? A Toyota, for example, would probably be more reliable than a Volvo and it would be easier to find someone who knows how to work on them since they are so widespread.

I haven't driven the S60, but I have spent a fair amount of time in the S40. I thought it was decent, I liked the simple interior and thought the controls were easy to use. It was not very sporty (had the base engine) but the drive was fine. No complaints about it, but I haven't had enough time in the S40 to get a sense of how it holds up in the long term.
