Anyone out there done any repairs to their inner wings - got a 98 Disco and the Solihull tin worm has definitely taken a hold in a few places - to the point that there some parts have rusted through :( funny what you find when you wash the mud off ;)

Wanted to know how you reapaired them - not to fussy on the cosmetic side of things since I'll be re-shelling it in a few years anyway (D100).

TIA

Jeff

Not sure exactly what you're looking at. I fixed some rust a few weeks back. Nothing major just wanted to stop it from getting much further. Only had a few smallish holes.

I bascially wirewheeled all the rust then used POR-15 to cover it. Applied several coats then recaulked the seams. Nothing fancy just trying to keep if from spreading.

Mine seems to have rotted out where the washer bottle is on one side and then on the other side underneath the airbox :( Unfortunately the D1 in both inner wing areas appears to be a bit of a water trap :(

I had some rust under the Washer bottle in the wheel well. Unfortunatly I did not pull the washer bottle it's probably the only thing I did not pull but after I had the whole break system out and everything else I started to run out of time and only fixed the rust under the wheel well so that's probably something I need to pull and look at in the future. Once I have a garage again.

As far as fixing the rust I would use POR-15 on any and all rust you find. Make sure to follow their preperation directions and you won't have to worry about that rust again. Then depending on the size of the holes I would use galvanized sheet metal or fiberglass to fix the holes.
