Anyone running Yakima 1A feet?

I bought the whole setup: 1A feet, sks core, hi-rise kit, 66" bars, etc etc.... in hopes of mounting my Rocket Box up there for our road trips.

Has anyone run into the problem of the rear feet pushing in on the alpine glass? I mounted everything up and then promptly took it down after I realized that the rear feet, when mounted and tightened, push in onto the glass.

I have tried moving the rear bar setup forward and backwards to get it off the glass by because of the size of my rocket box it makes it hang off the front or the back of the vehicle by a couple of feet. It seems the only way to have it centered up the way it should be is to have the rear bar system lined up with the alpine glass.

Any solutions? Thanks!

Do you have the feet mounted too close together? What if you move them half an inch closer to the end of the bars?

I run the Thule gutter feet also. It could just be that the Yakima feet slope inward more than the Thule feet.

The Thule work because the foot/tower is all one piece. It is built that way and the angle towards the truck in minimal.
The problem with the Yakima junk is that they use the same feet. If you want a taller tower you need to add an extension. So the foot angles towards the roof of the truck pretty good, then you stick a spacer vertically on top of it.
If you pull the towers away from th roof your crossrail will be either bowed up or bowed down.

I run a hybrid setup: Thule 65" bar over the alpine glass (on super high feet, part #953 I think), with a pair of Yakima 66" bars on Rail Grab towers mounted to the factory rails. I can use my Yakima goodies on the front pair of bars (bike mounts, ski mounts) and can put a basket or rooftop case on the middle and back bars, which I can reach from the rear bumper/ladder. I have a neighbor who has made some Frankentowers by modifying his 1A setup so they clear the back half of his D2's roof, but it looks janky and doesn't appear to be as stout as the standard setup. Plus I think the Thule feet are wider at the base so they are more stable in the gutters. Craigslist has been a good source for finding deals on roof rack parts.

I used the Yakima feet for a long time. I just moved the rear ones back so they were resting on the body, rather than the window. I do have rub marks where the feed sat, but no broken glass.

Doesnt work for me with the box.

Lossen the bar clamping bolt (with the special wrench) and move the feet out a little after clamping them down to the rail. The bar clamp should be tightend as the last step to avoid the bent bar syndrome. Its a fine tuning process for sure.

I run them in the rear with Rail grabs on the factory rails in the front, by just going a bit wider on the bar you can keep them outa the windows.

I have had 5 kayaks at 50-70 lbs each up there without issue.
