Have you ever had to use Panofite for an ear infection? If so, how do you get rid of the waxy, greasy mess it leaves behind on their fur around the ear area?

<---Dewey got a yeasty ear infection and at the end of this week he'll have 2 weeks worth of this nasty shit stuck all around his fuzzy ears.

Thanks in advance fellow dog lovers!

Spaniels are renown for yeasty ear infections, tried the various vetinary prescribed medications some of which did not work, but this works really well.

make it at home, but not to be used if there are open sores or ruptured ear drums.
White vinegar
Powdered Boric acid
Rubbing alcohol
Iodine Antiseptic

The boric acid is apparently used to cook meth so it is kept behind the counter.

After cleaning the ear, I massage the ear canal which the dog likes, and usually prevents him from immediately shaking his head and having the medication splattered all over the place.

At night if your dog has floppy ears (and sleeps beside the bed) flop the ear back to allow air circulation.

Thanks Mac! His ear is actually start to heal, but that Panofite has really mucked up his fur. The medicine itself is yellow and waxy, I swear it's melted ear wax! LOL I'm afraid to take him on vacation with us in two weeks because the cabin owners might think he is a dirty dog because it looks so bad.

Glad to help,

If the fur is really matted I would trim around the ears with an electric clippers especially around the inner ear. (depending on your dogs temperament of course) which will also help reducing the chance of another infection by increasing air circulation around the ear canal.

I use the concoction I linked earlier to flush out the ear after swimming and washing. and have not had a ear infection since:applause:
