ARB air compressor

After looking at the ECR D2 project, I've had some ideas. I've been planning on adding ARB lockers at some point, but I'm wondering if an ARB compressor is strong enough to also use for inflating tires? I really like the setup they did with the air connection on the rear of the vehicle so that you could hook up an air hose, but I want a much smaller compressor than what they used.

I have one, and was wondering the same thing, maybe put in a receiver tank with a regulator, and work from there with a Quick disconnect hose. Other than that, I have the 20 buck cigarette lighter version from Autozone....or Pep boys...can't remember, and it works just fine.

I have the MV-50 from Q-Industries.. Its discontinued, but they have other models out.. you'll get a bang for your buck with them.. check out this thread: http://discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=13713 .. as a follow up to my post in that thread.. I recieved the MV-50 and I love it, fast fillups.. It filled up 8 tires w/o overheating a few months ago... I'm going to be mounting it w/ a tank hopefully this weekend.

I just installed the Viair 280 in the back of my truck. It works pretty well goes up to 150PSI and has 33% Duty Cycle. I havent put a tank in yet but i plan on it.

Where are you guys planning on putting a tank, and how many gallons?
Also, what type of regulator on the feed, as you don't want to overpressurize or burn out the compressor?

i was thinking about a 2 gallon tank or just getting one from a Range Rover. The presure switch i will have at like 115-105 or something around there.

I guess I'm a little confused, what exactly to you need for a setup to run lockers and one output to fill tires?

Compressor and tank or just compressor? Does a locker need a continuos air source or just a burst to lock and then one to unlock?

This may sound dumb, but could you use a small 2.5 gallon craftsman air compressor to handle these jobs? Probably not the cleanest setup, and I'm not sure how you would power it.

Hey Joe,
I have ARB lockers f & r and I found out quickly that the ARB compressor is not intended to air up tires. I have a QuickAir2 portable HO air compressor from www.sunperformance.com. They now offer the QuickAir3 which has better performance than mine. I personally do not want an air tank onboard and prefer a portable air compressor. You just need a good battery.

parts:
1 RR air compressor
1 RR air tank
Misc. Fittings to suit your needs

Procedure:
-Install the tank under the driverside on the frame rail
-Mount compressor in engine compartment here spare battery goes
-Plumb with Copper tubing to tank

Now teh tank has 4 ports
-1 for pressure swith on 85, off 105
-1 for input from compressor, and output for air lockers
-1 for drain on bottom
-1 for pressure relief and filling tires

notes:
-total cost was under the price of a ARB compressor
-on both ends of teh tank i used tees
- the tank will fill from 0psi to around 113(where the ps shuts it off :/) in abour 2 min
-Filling tires is no problem, just a little time consuming

Thanks, I may go this route. By the way, do you have any photos of your setup?

I must be the only one who has had good luck with his arb compressor. I use it for the lockers and to air up my tires. It is slow but works fine. I've used it to air up a tire on our class A motorhome with no problem. I will be knocking on wood now that I've spouted off. ;)

I don't so it takes a while to air up the tires. I plan on doing it some day but I'm still staring at my gbr 4:10s wondering when those will get in. So its at the bottom of the list right now :D
