Are '09-'02 and '03-'04 MAFs interchangeable?

Will my '99 MAF work in my friend's '04 DII?

My friend has been chasing lean codes on both sides for over a year with no luck. He's changed the O2s (twice) and we did a smoke test looking for vacuum leaks. That leaves us wondering about the MAF.

There are different part numbers for the 4.0 and 4.6 MAFs. I am willing to let him try the MAF from my '99 in his truck for a day or so to see if that solves his problem, but if the two MAFs are not interchangeable there's no use doing so.

Barrel is different sized. The sensor bolted into it with security hardware has the same part number. You can remove the fancy bolts with vice grips.

Thanks for the quick reply, jafir. One more question; do you happen to know whether or not the wiring harness connectors are the same?

Yep. The harness plugs into the sensor part, and that part is the same. I've swapped the guts between the 1999 and the 2003 D2's that I used to own.
