Thanks for your help.

I am replacing the fuse box in the engine compartment of my truck as we speak. Are all the yellow relays the same or are some different. I am replacing some and they look diifferent but they all fit in the same slots.

1999 Range Rover. (I would have placed this under RR tech but people don't look at that as much)

Thank you!!!!

If you look inside this fuse box cover, you may see all listed fuses in there.. :)

If tis a fuse box, they might be circuit breakers, these are becoming more common nowadays. Fuses have their ratings listed in amps on them, color coding as well I know you're trying hard, but if you don't know what your working on, get help, before you mess something up real bad. There are 7 computers in those RRs and each one of them is rather expensive......failure of even one results in an expensive trip to a shop

All the big yellow relays are the same - 4 terminals. All the greens, blacks, & the 1 small yellow have 5 terminals.

exactly what is wrong with your electronics? i'm having a lot of trouble with my electronics as well. it just started to crap out on me. the seats do not adjust. i messed around witht he fuses a bit, and my seat will now adjust but only if the door is open. my sunshade mirror's lights don't work on either side (same as my seats) my rear wiper doesn't work. i believe fuse number 7 (heated seats, cigar lighter, etc.) works but the strange thing is that the fuse was blown. everytime i change the fuse it blows up again. my clock light doesn't work, so i never know the time at night. and i havent checked the rest of the electronics yet, but i'm sure theres s'more problems there. any pointers on how to fix this would be really really great!

BTW a few weeks ago, i was removing the middle compartment in the front (the large piece that is connected to the hand brake, cubby hole, shift, and diff lock) and after that these electronics stopped working. but i never touched any of the wires. i looked back at it and everything still seemed to be in tact.

Thanks again,
Kevin

The ground terminals & header joints (that are hidden ALL OVER Rovers) are notorious for causing gremlin-type electrical failures, and a few are under the center console.

Also, when the BECM blows a fuse, it can (internally & automatically) pull power from one of the other fuses that feeds it, making diagnosis that much more difficult. But ultimately, you'll probably find that a critical internal fault caused the fuse to blow in the first place, so you'll be replacing the BECM anyway. :(

Unless you're REALLY familiar with electronics & 12V circuit diagnosis, you'll save a lot of time & frustration by paying the dealer to fix it.

Clock bulbs are pretty easy to replace, but it does take some effort.

Well you been replacing fuse box and then jumped to relays theme :) And i was sleepy.

Relays are colored for reason - they are different :) Seriously. If you look closely each of them actually has schematic on its back. At least ones in me truck do. Slots however indeed look same.

found out the problem, it was a pinched wire, that got caught when i was trying to find a way to where the ac was leaking in the passenger seat under the middle compartment. i shifted it around and didn't put it back with the wires properly. but as for the electrical problem, all is well. the ac, i still can't figure out why it is leaking, cause i've located the little rubber drain pipe inside and outside of the car, and i used a pressure machine to blow air both ways and clean it out, but it still leaks into the passenger front and back. any ideas on what else i can do?

Are you 100% sure it's A/C condensate and not heater core coolant?

Relays

Thank you everyone for your help. I called The Rover Club House in Durham and they told me that all the yellow relays are the same all the green are the same and all the blacks are the same.

I replaced the fuse box because it was cracking and corroiding which they are prone to do. I have a 1999 RR 4.6 and it was very simple to replace. The fuse box is labled with all the different colors so you can't mess it up.

You could see the brown burn marks on the outside of the yellow relays.

It took care of my A/C problem (little book kept appearing) and some other Lucas gremlins that I was having.

steve,

i am pretty sure it is the ac that causes the leaking, but if it isn't is there anything else it can be which i can fix?

If it's coolant, then you need 2 heater core O-rings (~$2). But the labor to install them is like 6 HOURS because the book says to REMOVE THE DASH. I know a way to change them MUCH faster, but it would be REALLY difficult to describe in text & you need a #2 phillips screwdriver with a 16" shaft.
