Just got my Hannibal roof rack and roof tent from Atlantic British. The tent did not come with instructions on how to mount it to the rack( I did find some on their web site). Before I do something irreversible I thought I might see what others have done and would recommend.

The rack is slotted to hold bolts and I could drill into the base of the tent , I could drill through both the rack and the tent base(which is what the instructions i found on Hannibal"s site said to do), but the tent base also has slotted rails that could hold a bolt and I could drill through the rack (not to wanting to drill through the rack).

Is there a better way???

Also how do you mount the high lift mounts? (more drilling)??

My Hannibal rack came with the tent so it was already mounted, but mine was drilled through both the tent base and the rack (and 1"x2"spacers). If I would have done it myself, I would use the slots on the rack and drill through the tent base.

I don't have a mount for my high lift yet, so I can't help there.

I have the shovel mount but not the high-lift mount for the Hannibal. The hi-lift might mount in the same manner though...

I'm assuming you have the newer rack with detachable rails. The shovel mount uses "flattened U-shape" stainless pieces which are similar to the stainless steel (or hell, maybe they're aluminum) pieces which hold the detachable rails. Two bolts top and bottom of each piece which slide into the grooves on the outside rails and the detachable rails. The shovel holder "stuff" is welded/attached/etc to the u-pieces.

On the other hand, the hi-lift mount might be more like the attachments for the awnings - wraps around upper and lower channel.

Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't...

Justin,

Sorry, had to take these at an angle to avoid glare from the setting sun, but I think you get the idea.

The high lift mounts require drilling a hole in the rack to mount. My rack does have detachable rails, however the back end of the rack is not square like the one in the above pic. The rear corners are rounded.

I think I like those round rear corners better than my squared-off corners. Very surprised by the hi-lift mounts. They're almost identical to a set-up I put together to use the light-mount tabs on the top bar of the ARB bullbar.

Too bad about the AB logo, though. Personally, if I had spent the $$ for all Hannibal parts/accessories, I would want it to be consistent. Did AB tell you that the tent cover was modified?

Nevertheless, your're truck looks great!

I like the rounded corners too, a pleasant surprise.

The Atlantic British Logo (and lack of Hannibal Logo) was just a surprise. (The cover also is more of a gray than a green)

I was thinking If I dont like the brush bar/front tent set up, I would just flip the entire rack around and use the ground ladder. The rounded corners would look good up front as well.

Thanks....next step TDI 300!

I found a Hi-Lift and Axe and Shovel Mounts that are a "shoe in" for the Hannibal Rack. Garvin makes both! No drilling is required and works great. Hope this info helps..

Well I finally got enough time to finish this project. I ended up drilling holes through the wood tent base into the rack itself (one in each corner). This was the easiest and ultimately the strongest set up.

Here are a few pics.
